FRESNO, Calif. - After a dramatic come from behind win in Boise two weeks ago, the Fresno State volleyball team looks to continue its winning ways over the Broncos as the two meet in Fresno for a conference match on Thursday (Oct. 4).
Boise State won games one (31-29) and two (32-30) in the first match, before the Bulldogs came out on fire after the break. Fresno State won game three (30-16) and game four (30-27), before hitting a season-high .429 in game five and scoring the first eight points, to earn the 15-5 victory.
Alisha McKee led the Bulldogs with 20 kills, a season-high at the time, in the first meeting. Freshman Kasey Van Grouw also had a career night with seven kills, six blocks and a team-high .357 hitting percentage.
Before the last match, Boise State had won the previous three matches between the two teams, dating back to 2005. The last time Fresno State swept the regular season series with the Broncos was in 2003. Fresno State improved its overall record to 13-4 over Boise State.
After the win at Boise, the Bulldogs lost their next three matches at Idaho and at home against Nevada and Utah State. Fresno State is 2-4 in Western Athletic Conference play and currently sits in sixth place in the standings. Boise State is still winless at 0-6 and in ninth place.
