FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's golf team (280-280 - 560) shot a second round of 280 at the Pacific Invitational to move up to fifth place on the leader board. The Bulldogs shot 16-under par at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton, Calif.
Grant Doverspike is tied for fourth place after shooting his second consecutive round of 68 to total 136/-8. Doverspike started the day strong with seven birdies but then bogeyed on three of the last four holes before a final birdie on hole 18. Doverspike is three strokes from the leader Stefan Wiedergruen (133) of Charlotte.
"We had the potential for a fantastic day, but didn't quite get it," said coach Mike Watney. "Grant had a great score today, he is playing spectacular golf and is in contention to win the tournament despite his poor stretch on 15,16,and 17. Brad also had a really solid day."
Brad Wyatt (71-67 - 138) is tied for 12th after a great second round of 67 to stand 6-under par. Freshman Michael Gideon (71-71 - 142) is tied for 29th place with 2-under par. Todd Angel (72-74 -146) is tied for 47th and Matt Ryan (70-77 - 147) is tied for 54th place.
Kansas State (547) still holds the top position over the No. 1-ranked team in the nation Charlotte (553). UC Davis (556) is in third and Oregon (558) is two strokes ahead of the `Dogs in fourth place.
