Ross and Henry Net Career Highs

Moraga, Calif. - Despite a career night from Erica Henry and Jaleesa Ross, the Fresno State women's basketball team dropped a 79-68 decision to Saint Mary's on Wednesday night at the McKeon Pavilion. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 1-7 while Saint Mary's improved to 6-5.
"We are young and we are learning," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "There is a lot of good things we did. I thought we shared the ball really well and the desire to win was there. We just have to learn how to execute for an entire game. "
Henry had a career best of 19 points and 14 rebounds in 34 minutes of play. She was 9 of 13 from the foul line and grabbed 10 offensive rebounds. Ross also had a career high 17 points, 14 coming in the first half while Tierre Wilson had 16 points. Ross also grabbed eight rebounds.
Fresno State out rebounded the Gaels 50-46 but shot only 32 percent from the field.
The Dogs led throughout the first half with their biggest lead being a 26-20 lead following a jumper by Henry with 6:40 to play. Saint Mary's then went on an 11-0 run to take a five point lead at 31-26 following a 3-pointer by Mikaela Cowles two minutes later.
Fresno State came back to take a one point lead at 32-31 following a 3-pointer by Ross. After a layup by Emma Andrews and a free throw by Henry, the Bulldogs led 35-34 at the break.
The Dogs opened the second half taking a four-point lead at 42-38 a minute into the final period. Over the next five minutes Saint Mary's built a 54-47 lead with 14:19 to play. The closest the Bulldogs got the rest of the way was three points at two different occasions in the final period.
Fresno State returns to the floor on Saturday at 1 p.m. for another in-state contest against first year Division I foe Cal-State Bakersfield. The game can be heard live on 790 ESPN Radio, the Deuce and seen on Comcast Cable channel 14.
