FRESNO, Calif.- - The Fresno State women's basketball team had four players in double figures for the first time this season and beat Cal-State Bakersfield 93-50 on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center. The win is the Bulldogs first home win of the season and they now sit 2-7 while Bakersfield dropped to 5-6. The 43 points margin of victory was the biggest win for the Bulldogs since an 86-38 victory over Cal-State Northridge on December 20, 1996.
"We felt like Bakersfield was going to be a very difficult opponent," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "They played really good basketball and they beat some good teams. For us to come out and play this well together was very refreshing and much needed for us."
Jaleesa Ross scored a new career high of 19 points on seven of 14 shooting while grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. It is the second straight game Ross has had a career high as she had 17 points at Saint Mary's on Wednesday.
"We were just sharing the basketball and my teammates were finding me where I could put it in," Ross said.
Hayley Munro also had a new season and career high in points with 14 while adding eight rebounds. Bailey Amundsen chipped in 15 points while Tierre Wilson had 10. Wilson went over the 1,000 point mark for her career on her eighth point of the game.
The Dogs won every statistical category, shooting a season-best 52 percent from the field and holding CSUB to 34 percent. Fresno State out rebounded the Roadrunners 49-26 and had 26 assists, also a season-best, to Bakersfields' 12.
The Bulldogs trailed 7-3 two minutes into the game. They then went on a 24-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 27-9 lead with 12:28 left until halftime. During that stretch the Dogs went nine-for-nine from the field and two-for-two from the foul line.
Fresno State led by 27 at 51-24 at halftime. The lead was extended to 37 at 71-34 with 11:34 to play and the biggest lead of the game was the final score.
Fresno State returns to the floor on Monday for a 10:00 a.m. tip off at No. 18 Arizona State. The game can be heard live 790 ESPN Radio, the Deuce.
