Dogs Trail Aggies After First Day

FRESNO, Calif. - After the first day of competition, the Fresno State Equestrian team has some work to do to catch the competition.
Fresno State dropped the Western phase of the meet to both New Mexico State and Texas A&M. NMSU leads the Dogs 7-3 and the TAMU owns an 8-1 lead heading into Sunday's English competition.
`It was a tough day, needless to say," said head coach Becky Malmo, whose Western squad won just three matches. "We don't have any room for error tomorrow and I'd like to see the same fire and confidence our team showed heading into today. We are capable of winning both matches, but we will have to be very accurate and correct to make it happen."
Heidi Smith got Fresno State's only win against Texas A&M, defeating Christine Sceets 71-70.5 in Western Horsemanship. Smith picked up a win against New Mexico State, as did Rebecca Flood and Sara Barnes.
The Bulldog host New Mexico State and Texas A&M Sunday at 8 a.m. in English events at the Student Horse Center. Admission is free.
