Softball Wins Two More Saturday at the Bulldog Classic

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team won two games Saturday on the third day of the Bulldog Classic at Bulldog Diamond. The Bulldogs won their first game 9-0 in five innings against Toledo, before beating Purdue 7-2 in the final game of the day.
With the win, Fresno State has now won six straight games and improved to 7-1 at Bulldog Diamond. The Bulldogs also remain the only undefeated team at the Bulldog Classic, with a perfect 4-0 record.
The Tournament concludes on Sunday, with three games, the first beginning at 9 a.m. when Penn State faces Toledo. Fresno State's final game will be against Penn State at 2 p.m.
Fresno State jumped on the board early and jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. Purdue rallied for two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Bulldogs answered with two more runs to give them the victory.
Offensively, Haley Perkins set the tone at the leadoff spot. Perkins went 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Nichole Willis drove in two runs and was 2 for 3 at the plate and Merryann Barr drove in three runs.
Robin Mackin picked up the win, improving to 12-6 on the year. Mackin pitched seven strong innings, striking out 10 batters and allowing two earned runs on five hits. Mackin also went 2 for 4 with a triple and one RBI and one run scored at the plate.

In the first game of the day for the Bulldogs, put three big innings together, scoring four in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth before the game was called in the fifth inning.
Offensively, Jenna Cervantez went 1 for 2 with a three run double to right center to start the scoring in the second inning. Merryann Barr went 2 for 3 with one RBI and Lisamarie Coronado went 2 for 3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Barr also picked up the win for Fresno State, improving to 5-2 on the year. Barr struck out eight batters in five innings.
