No. 13 Bulldogs Sweep Virginia Tech, 7-0

FRESNO, Calif. - The 13th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team was nearly perfect Tuesday evening after beating visiting Virginia Tech 7-0 at the Wathen Tennis Center. It was the first time in more than a month that the `Dogs had played a home match and the crowd was rewarded with a convincing victory.
"It was really great to be back in front of the home crowd," said head coach Simon Thibodeau. "I thought we were very focused in singles and we got the job done efficiently."
The `Dogs won all six singles matches and two of three in doubles to beat the Hokies in only the second meeting between the two teams.
Sophomore Danon Beatty and freshman Renata Kucerkova got doubles started with a solid 8-2 win at the No. 2 spot. Beatty and Kucerkova improved to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in dual matches. On court No. 1, sophomore Melanie Gloria and freshman Anastasia Petukhova clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 victory over Beermann and Larson.
Second-ranked Gloria was dominant as usual, beating No. 72 Inga Beerman in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Gloria improved to 21-4 overall and 7-1 in dual matches. Kucerkova was perfect at the No. 2 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Beatty clinched the match for the Bulldogs with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Abbey Walker. Freshman Vanessa Heroux won in the super-tiebreaker playing again at the No. 4 in her victory over J.J. Larson.
Freshman Anastasia Petukhova won in straight sets over Jessica Long, and junior Jacqueline Haskett got her first win of the dual season in a straight set defeat of Bethan James.
Fresno State has won five consecutive matches since it beat Pepperdine 5-2 on Feb. 10. The Bulldogs will be back in action on March 15 against TCU and March 16 against South Florida at the Wathen Tennis Center.
