Bulldogs Take Close One From Aggies, 4-3

DAVIS, Calif. - On a Tuesday afternoon at James M. and Ann Dobbins Stadium the Fresno State (21-18, 6-3) Bulldogs defeated the UC Davis (11-18) Aggies by a 4-3 score. The Bulldogs had 12 hits on day while UC Davis compiled 13. Fresno State defeated UC Davis earlier this year at home by an 8-2 score. Fresno State now leads the all-time series 30-9.
The Bulldogs and Ozzie Lewis jumped on the base pads with a walk in the top of the second inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored when Alan Ahmady singled to left field. Fresno State led at the end of two, 1-0.
The UC Davis Aggies answered in the bottom of the third with two runs. The first runner reached first base on a single and later scored on a triple from Daniel Descalso. Descalso scored from third on a wild pitch for the second run. The inning ended on a ground out.
The Bulldogs tied the game up in the top of the fifth inning when second baseman Gavin Hedstrom singled to centerfield scoring David Hernandez. In the bottom of the fifth inning UC Davis took the one run lead back with a home run to left field at 3-2.
Fresno State tied the game up at 3-3 when Dan Grubb singled to right field bringing in Ozzie Lewis from third base in the top of the sixth inning. With the Aggies loading the bases and no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning Jacob Hower would get the Bulldogs out of the jam recording three outs with a foul out, strikeout and a pop out.
In the top of the seventh inning Fresno State jumped ahead 4-3 when Alan Ahmady drove in the winning run walking to first base.
Alan Ahmady went 2-for-3 on the day with two singles, two RBI's and one walk. David Hernandez also went 2-for-4 with one double and one single. Storey went 2-for-4 with two triples.
Fresno State will come back home to take on Hawai'i in a three-game series starting Friday at 6:05 p.m. The following two games will take place Saturday at 6:05 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
