No. 16 Bulldogs Sweep Tigers in Regular Season Finale

FRESNO, Calif. - Next up for the 16th-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team is its quest for a sixth straight Western Athletic Conference title.
After the Bulldogs beat the visiting Pacific Tigers on Saturday evening in the regular season finale, they can now turn their attention to next week's WAC tournament in Boise, Idaho. The `Dogs beat the Tigers 7-0, finishing the year at 17-3 overall while boasting an unblemished 12-0 record at home in the Wathen Tennis Center.
Fresno State won the doubles point for the 14th consecutive time. Sophomores Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe beat Schneider and Twarowska 8-6 at the No. 1 spot. Freshmen Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova downed Arens and Mrazovic 8-3 at the No. 2 spot, while sophomore Danon Beatty and junior Jacqueline Haskett were solid in an 8-2 defeat of Fisher and Tamborini on court No. 3.
Rowe was the first to finish in singles, dominating Carla Tamborini 6-1, 6-1. Haskett swiftly followed with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Sasha Fisher at the No. 5 spot.
As Fresno State led 3-0, Kucerkova clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jolanta Twarowska at the No. 2 spot. Petukhova finished next, beating Svenja Arens 6-3, 6-2 to make it 5-0.
Gloria won her 16th straight, beating Vana Mrazovic 6-1, 6-3. Paes finished off the match, beating Clara Shuhmacher in straight sets. Down 4-2 in the second, Paes rallied to win four straight games and seal the victory.
It was seventh time this season that Fresno State has beat its opponent 7-0. It was also the second straight match in which Fresno State won all six singles contests in straight sets. The `Dogs beat Cal Poly 7-0 earlier in the day.
Fresno State will head to Boise this week as the WAC Championships begin on April 26.
