FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore linebacker Quaadir Brown has been suspended for one game by the University for violation of the Fresno State Student-Athlete Code of Conduct. Brown is suspended for the first game of the 2007 season and will not be allowed to participate in any team activities that day.
Brown's suspension, announced today by Fresno State Athletics Director Thomas Boeh, comes after an investigation and recommendation by the Code of Conduct Committee.
"Although Quaadir has acknowledged and apologized for the events that led to this suspension, he was fully aware that such conduct would result in consequences," Boeh said. "The recent revision of the Code of Conduct and the creation of a broad-based review committee were specifically designed to ensure fair and expeditious judgment procedures as well as the application of consistent punitive measures."
In addition to the suspension Brown will also be directed to adhere to other department and university sanctions. However, in compliance with the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), details regarding additional sanctions will not be disclosed publicly.
"First and foremost I want to apologize to the people that are close to me," Brown said. "I apologize to my university for not representing it like I should. I apologize for my behavior and the way I acted. I accept full responsibility for my actions"
"We have high standards within our program and our players know the Code of Conduct well," said Hill. "Quaadir has taken responsibility for his actions, will serve his punishment, and we will put this issue behind us. We are fortunate that we have not had many legal issues in our football program. Our entire team has learned a valuable lesson from this incident."
