Bulldogs Face Idaho State in 2007 Home Opener

FRESNO, Calif. - The 2007 home schedule begins with Idaho State at 7 p.m. on Aug. 30. Tickets for the first match only will be just $1.00. UC Davis will follow on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. and St. Mary's visits the Save Mart Center on Sept. 2 at 2 p.m.
This Week's Opponents:
Idaho State
The Big Sky Conference Bengals arrive in Fresno for the Bulldogs 2007 home opener. Idaho State also started the season 0-3 after playing opening weekend at the Oregon tournament.They were swept (3-0) by Oregon, Kansas and Cal State Bakersfield. Idaho State has its home opener Tues. (Aug. 28) against Montana-Western before heading to face the Bulldogs. The Bengals, with no seniors on this years, team, are led by sophomore Christine Van Orden who is hitting .222 and Katie Edgson who had 27 digs on the season. The last meeting between these two teams was exactly four years ago from this matches scheduled date. ISU prevailed 3-2 for its first win in the series.
UC Davis
The Aggies played at the Northern Arizona tournament in opening weekend, dropping three matches to NAU, New Mexico State and Albany. Freshman Kayla Varney has led UC Davis in the first three matches with 38 kills. With a .373 hitting percentage, Tori Hooper leads the Aggies in this statistical category. Fresno State has won three in a row against the Aggies, including a 3-2 victory on Sept. 16, 2006.
St. Mary's
The Gaels come into Sunday's match against the Bulldogs undefeated as they swept Eastern Washington and Utah State and beat Arizona, 3-2, at the Arizona Tournament.FS leads the all-time series 6-0, with the last match being in Sept. of 1999. Megan York leads St. Mary's with 48 kills and is second on the team in hitting percentage (.252) behind Megan Burton (.321).
Last Weeks Recap:
With a tough lineup at the University of Washington Husky Classic on opening weekend,the Bulldogs were swept by No. Washington (30-18, 30-16, 30-22) and San Francisco (30-25, 30-20, 30-28) after losing a heartbreaker to Cal State Northridge 3-2 (30-25, 32-30, 30-28, 30-23, 15-12). The Bulldogs had a season-high 17.5 blocks against Northridge and in three matches are averaging more blocks then their opponents. The Bulldogs have 13 solo blocks compared to just three of their opponents.
