Lacey Gera Leads Bulldogs to First Conference Victory

FRESNO, Calif. - Lacey Gera had 14 kills and hit a season-high .375 hitting percentage as the Fresno State volleyball team earned its first conference victory of the season with a sweep over Louisiana Tech, Saturday (Sept. 15) at the Save Mart Center. The game scores were 30-28, 30-28 and 30-25.
The Lady Techsters took the early lead in game one as Fresno State's first lead was at 3-2. The game was close with La. Tech retaking the lead at 17-16. Lexi Watson had three-straight kills to give the Bulldogs the lead for good at 28-27 and Tairyn Rasmussen sealed it with a kill on an assist from Tiffany Hess.
Game two also saw La. Tech come out with an early lead, as Fresno State didn't earn its first lead until 19-18 by a service ace from freshman Kelly Mason. The Lady Techsters had it tied at 28 when Lacey Gera had back-to-back kills to end the game.
Fresno State got off an early lead in game three until La. Tech tied it at 15. Fresno State regained the lead at 21-20 as Kelly Leonardo served five-straight points and the Bulldogs never looked back.
Rasmussen hit .250 with 13 kills and Lisa Gera led the Bulldogs with 17 digs.
The win moves the Bulldogs to 1-1 in conference play and 3-9 overall. Louisiana Tech falls to 0-2 in the WAC and 5-9 overall.
Fresno State swept the season series with the Lady Techsters in 2006 and now lead the overall series 9-2.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The Fresno State Volleyball will be on the road for the next two games, traveling to Boise State on September 20 and Idaho on September 22. The next match at home is Thursday, September 27 against Nevada at 7 p.m. in the Save Mart Center.
