FRESNO, Calif. - Nicole Gutierrez scored a late goal but it wasn't enough as Cal-State Fullerton defeated Fresno State 3-2 on Sunday at Bulldog Stadium. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 4-5 while Cal-State Fullerton improved to 6-3-1.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game when Amanda Reyes connected on a cross inside the box off a pass from Ali Sill. Fresno State dominated the first 20 minutes as they controlled the majority of the possession and fired most of its shots during that time span.

"I thought we did fairly well in the first 20 minutes," Fresno State coach Steve Springthorpe said. "We scored an early goal and looked dangerous and then about the 20 minute mark we got frazzled when they started pushing a few numbers forward. We didn't handle it very well."

In the final 25 minutes of the first half, the Titans became the aggressors on offense and tied the game up in the 40th minute after a goal by Christina Murillo.

Fullerton then scored goals in the 48th and 79th minutes to take a 3-1 lead. In the 86th minute Gutierrez flicked in a pass from Sill to bring the Bulldogs with one. Gutierrez's goal was her fourth in the last two games.

"Give credit to Fullerton," Springthorpe said. "They were down a goal and they fought back and ended up scoring three unanswered goals. We pushed numbers forward at the end. We got another goal which was good. At that point two goals is not easy to come back from."

Fresno State returns to the field next Sunday for a home contest against San Francisco. Kick off is at 2 p.m.
