Bulldogs Win in Double Overtime

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State soccer continues their win streak earning a double overtime, 1-0, win over Louisiana tech. Nicole Gutierrez scored in the final minutes of the second overtime period for the Bulldogs second conference win. The `Dogs are 2-0-1 in WAC play and 6-7-2 overall.
"Credit goes to our team, they gave a great team effort and hung in there on the road," said head coach Steve Springthorpe. "Credit also goes to La Tech, they had a good game plan and it was a tough battle."
Fresno State had several opportunities to score throughout the game, but shots sailed high or wide. The Bulldogs recorded 20 shots. Louisiana Tech goalie Cat Buchanan earned nine saves.
"It was a tough battle and we played some good soccer," said Springthorpe. "We had a lot of opportunities that went high or wide."
Kaithlyn Revel and the Bulldog defense had another stellar game and kept Louisiana Tech leading scorers, Kristen Sevier and Olivia Lukasewich from scoring. Fresno State recorded its seventh shutout of the season. The defense has not let a goal in since conference play began.
In the final minutes of the game Gutierrez was able to knock the ball past Buchanan for the winning goal. Molly Nizzoli lured the goalie out and Buchanan won the challenge. Gutierrez picked up the loose ball and pushed the ball into an open goal.
"You do your best to come out with the results you want, fortunately we were able to finish and get the result we wanted," said Springthorpe.
Gutierrez continues to lead the team in goals scored with six. Nizzoli records her second assist of the year.
The `Dogs continue conference play on the road as they face Utah State on Oct. 19 at 12 p.m.
