Volleyball Team Heads North to San Jose

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldogs will return to Fresno for a WAC contest this week as they host Louisiana Tech on Saturday at 7 p.m., after traveling up north to take on San Jose State on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs are 5-14 overall and 2-8 in Western Athletic Conference play.
San Jose State
The Spartans currently sit in sixth place in conference standings with a 4-6 WAC record and a 9-13 overall record. Last week, SJSU fell 3-1 to No. 23 Santa Clara and was swept by No. 9 Hawai'i in Honolulu. The Bulldogs and Spartans last met on Sept. 27 in the Bulldogs WAC home opener with San Jose State earning the sweep. The match will be played at Spartan Gym on the campus of SJSU.
Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech visits the Save Mart Center on Saturday still winless in conference play at 0-10 and a 3-17 overall record. Last week, the Lady Techsters got swept by McNeese State and New Mexico State and got lost in four sets to Nevada. Fresno State defeated La. Tech back on Sept. 20 for the Bulldogs first WAC win of the season.
Fighting Spirit Award
Head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell announced a new tradition at Fresno State, one that she brought with her from Hofstra. The award will be given to a player or group that shows consistent fighting spirit through adversity and challenge in a match. If no players show that ability, the award will not be given. That's how special this award is. The winner will be announced at the conclusion of each match on www.gobulldogs.com. For more information about the award check out the release on the website. Blogs
The Fresno State Media Relations office started a new tradition in the fall of 2008. Each member of media relations will blog for his/her assigned sports at least twice when the sport is in season. Blogs will come from the media relations staff themselves along with student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and other staff assigned to the team. The blogs can be found on a link on the front page of www.gobulldogs.com.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The `Dogs continue WAC road play as they travel to San Jose State on Thursday, October 30 for a 7 p.m. match. The `Dogs return home on Saturday, November 1 as they welcome Louisiana Tech to the Save Mart Center at 7 p.m. It's Local Business Night and all business members receive $2 admission when presenting their business card at the box office.
