Bulldogs Host Nevada Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. - After playing at least two matches a week since Aug. 29, the Fresno State volleyball team gets somewhat of a break with just one match this week, a WAC contest vs. Nevada on Saturday at 2 p.m at the Save Mart Center. Nevada
Nevada and the Bulldogs are tied at 2-4 in conference play and Nevada is 6-9 overall. The Wolfpack host Sacramento State on Tuesday in a non-conference contest before traveling to Fresno on Saturday. Fresno State leads the overall series 17-14, but Nevada has won the last five, including a 3-0 sweep on Oct. 11 of 2007.
Fun Fact
Devin Scruggs is in her 12th year as the head coach at Nevada, where Fresno State assistant Alanna Jackson coached last season as an assistant. Jackson and Bulldog head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell played together at Nevada under Scruggs in the late 1990's.
Fighting Spirit Award
Head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell announced a new tradition at Fresno State, one that she brought with her from Hofstra. The award will be given to a player or group that shows consistent flighting spirit through adversity and challenge in a match. If no players show that ability, the award will not be given. That's how special this award is. The winner will be announced at the conclusion of each match on www.gobulldogs.com. For more information about the award check out the release on the website. Blogs
The Fresno State Media Relations office started a new tradition in the fall of 2008. Each member of media relations will blog for his/her assigned sports at least twice when the sport is in season. Blogs will come from the media relations staff themselves along with student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and other staff assigned to the team. The blogs can be found on a link on the front page of www.gobulldogs.com.
