The `Dogs Win Four Events Against Aztecs

FRESNO, Calif. - Three swimmers won four individual events while roughly 90 percent of the team improved in every event at the Aztec Aquaplex against the Aztecs of San Diego State Saturday at 12 p.m. Fresno State finished today's meet only 27 points behind San Diego State, with a score of 153-126, its closest meet point wise this season.
"I was really proud today," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "We had a great meet and we earned best times in almost every event."
Freshman Heidi Gjoen (Oslo, Norway) dominated in the 100 and 200 backstroke, claiming victories in both events, while freshman Jordan Morillo (Lindsay, Calif.) showcased strength winning the 200 breaststroke.
"Jordan was seven seconds faster in the 200 butterfly," said Fleck. "I am very happy with their performance today."
Junior Mary Tess Taylor (Granite Bay, Calif.) earned a win in the 200 IM, an exhibition event in today's meet.
Along with time and performance improvements in individual events, the `Dogs also shined in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing eight seconds faster from last week's time at Washington State.
The diving team rose to the top in all events today earning first place titles in the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Junior Kendra Weeks (Folsom, Calif.) claimed a win in the 1-meter diving event, finishing with a score of 174.6, while fellow teammate junior Blair Hopkins won the 3-meter event with a score of 168.9. San Diego State exhibitioned in both diving events as well as the last two swimming events in today's meet.
"I'm very proud of the girl's performance today," said head dive coach Taryn Ignacio. "It was a good day."
Complete results for today's meet are attached. Fresno State travels to the campus of Boise State Saturday, Nov.15 to face the Broncos at 11 a.m.
