FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldog volleyball team concludes the regular season this weekend by traveling north the Gem State to complete a three-match weekend by taking on Boise State (Thursday, 6 p.m. PST) and Idaho (Saturday, 7 p.m.). The Bulldogs are 6-17 overall, exceeding their win total from 2007 with a 3-1 victory over Louisiana Tech last week. Fresno State is currently in eighth place in the conference standings at 3-11.
The Broncos are one match ahead of the Bulldogs in the WAC standings at 4-10 as they also defeated the Bulldogs in Fresno back on Oct. 2. The match will determine who will earn the seventh seed in next week's WAC tournament and who will earn the eighth seed and face Louisiana Tech in the play in match. Last week, Boise State fell 3-0 to Hawai'i and defeated La. Tech by the same score.
If the Bulldogs defeat Boise State in four sets or less then the Bulldogs will earn the seventh seed. If the Bulldogs defeat BSU in five sets the two teams will be tied in the standings and the Bulldogs will hold the tiebreaker by taking a set off of Hawai'i and would also take the seventh seed in that case. Boise State can wrap up the seventh seed by earning the win on Thursday.
The Vandals and Bulldogs will meet in the final WAC regular season match of the year in Moscow on Saturday. Idaho is third in the WAC standings at 9-5 and boasts a 16-9 overall record. They swept the Bulldogs in Fresno back on Oct. 4. Last week, Idaho swept Louisiana Tech and was swept by Hawai'i. Idaho is still fighting for the third seed in the WAC Tournament, as Utah State is just one match out of third.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The `Dogs travel to Boise State in WAC play on Thursday, November 13 for a 6 pm match.
