Platt Records Double-Double at Boise State

BOISE, Idaho - The Fresno State Bulldogs lost a tough match in Western Athletic Conference play Thursday night in Boise, Idaho 3-1, by set scores of 28-26, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-22. The Bulldogs fall to 6-18 overall and 3-12 in WAC play.
"We put ourselves in positions to win many times tonight," said head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell. "It's to be continued Saturday night."
The host Broncos looked strong out of the gate, getting out to an early lead of six at 18-12. The Bulldogs though fought back with three kills by Lacey Gera and two service aces by Allanah Munson to tie the set at 22.
Fresno State would get three set point opportunities at 24-22, 25-24 and 26-25, but an error by the `Dogs and a kill by BSU would give the host team a 28-26 set one victory.
Baylee Platt led the `Dogs in the opening set with seven kills on 16 attempts (.438).
The Bulldogs took an early lead in set two at 10-7 but Boise State fought back to tie the set at 11. After a BSU timeout, the Bulldogs then scored five-straight points which led to another BSU timeout.
The Bulldogs would extend their lead to seven at 21-14 and go on to win set two 25-18 and tie the match at 1-1.
Platt added another six kills in set two alone to have 13 going into the break.
Tied at four in set three, the Bulldogs would go on a tear, outscoring the Broncos 9-2 to force a BSU timeout at 13-6.
Boise State would fight back to cut the Bulldog lead to just one at 16-15 to force a Fresno State timeout. The Broncos would score five more straight points out of the timeout to take a 20-16 lead before a Gera kill broke the streak.
The Broncos would score the next five points to win set three, 25-17 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Fresno State got out to an early 9-6 lead in the fourth set but the Broncos tied the set at 10 and took the 11-10 lead. From there, BSU went on to win set four and the match with a 25-22 victory.
Platt led the `Dogs with 22 kills, a career-high 18 digs and a .367 hitting percentage. Gera finished with 17 kills of her own to tie her season high and Kasey Van Grouw added 11 digs. Munson finished with 43 assists.
"Baylee tried to carry her team through this match and is a dynamic, important player," Netherby-Sewell said.
Fighting Spirit Award
Tonight's `Fighting Spirit Award' went to Baylee Platt for the second-straight match.
"I"m really proud of the effort she has made to fight through adversity," Netherby-Sewell added.
The Bulldogs conclude regular season WAC play on the road in Moscow, Idaho as they take on the Vandals Saturday at 7 p.m.
