`Dogs Open Three-Game Homestand with Redhawks and Beavers
The Fresno State Bulldogs start their first extended homestand as they face Seattle University (Nov. 25) and Oregon State (Nov. 30) during Thanksgiving week. This will mark the first visit to the Save Mart Center by the Seattle Redhawks and the first home contest with a team from the Pacific-10 Conference since Stanford visited Fresno, Calif. for an exciting "Winter Whiteout" on Dec. 19, 2006.
About the Redhawks
Seattle University recorded a perfect 3-0 record as they opened the season at home with Chico State (61-58), Notre Dame de Namur (67-52) and Northwest Christian University (76-47). Eighth-year Head Coach Joe Callero will be looking for his 100th win with the Redhawks and sports a 99-97 record at the Independent program. His team finished 18-9 in 2007-08. The Redhawks will look for key contributions from returning guards Shaun Burl (6.1 ppg and 4.2 apg) and Chris Gweth (10.5 ppg and 4.32 rpg).
Against the Redhawks
Seattle won the only game between the two programs by a score of 104-73 in 1961.
About the Beavers
Oregon State is looking for their first win of the season as they dropped their first two games of 2008-09 to Howard (47-45) and Nevada (79-71). Both games were on the road for the Beavers. Head Coach Craig Robinson is in his first year at the helm of the Oregon State men's basketball looking to rebuild a team that finished last in the Pacific-10 in 2007-08, failed to win a conference game, and earned a 6-25 record. Fresno State Associate Head Coach Jeff Reinert was the lead assistant at Oregon State from 2002-2007.
Against the Beavers
Fresno State leads the overall series with Oregon State, 8-7. The `Dogs have won the past two contests and four of the last five meetings. Fresno State has also defended their home floor against the Beavers during Oregon State's previous four trips to Fresno. The teams last played in Fresno, Calif. on Nov. 26, 2005 when the `Dogs picked up a 80-73 victory. The teams most recent contest came on Dec. 2, 2006 in Corvallis, Ore. with the Bulldogs winning 74-69.
First Road Trip Nets Young Roster Valuable Experience
In front of a raucous, hostile, and sellout crowd on national television, Fresno State battled throughout the Nov. 17 late night madness to a 99-85 defeat at Saint Mary's. Four Bulldogs (George, Ladd, O'Neil and Seay) reached double figures in Fresno State's road opener. The `Dogs then trekked down south for a physcial battle with longtime rival San Diego State on Nov. 22, where Fresno State fell 80-56 to the Aztecs.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The `Dogs host Seattle on Tuesday, November 25 at 7:00 pm in the Save Mart Center. Tickets are on sale now through the Save Mart Center box office, by calling (559) 485-TIXS or online at ticketmaster.com.
