FRESNO, Calif. - For the first time in three years the Bulldog volleyball team took a set off of the New Mexico State Aggies, winning set one 25-19, but the No. 27 team in the country bounced back to win sets two, three and four by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18 to win the match Saturday evening in the Save Mart Center. The Bulldogs are now 6-16 overall and 3-10 in WAC play.
The Bulldogs started off the match on fire, showing the team that is tied for the WAC lead that it wasn't going to pick up an easy win in Fresno tonight. Hitting .310 in set one, the Bulldogs were up by as many as eight at 12-4 and while the Aggies fought back to cut to within four late, Fresno State hung on to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. Lacey Gera hit .556 in the set tallying five kills on nine attempts.
"We were really pumped up as a team and we came out firing," Allanah Munson said. "We had good passing and ball control and took it to them in set one."
Set two was tied at 9-9 before the Aggies took the lead for good and rolled to score four-straight points and seal a 25-16 set two victory and head to the break with a 1-1 tie in the match.
Sets three and four saw the Bulldogs fight to remain in the match but the Aggies were just too much for the Bulldogs as they rolled to the victory.
Baylee Platt led the `Dogs with 14 kills and Gera and ended with 10. Kasey Van Grouw led the defense with 11 digs.
