Bulldogs Defeat Northridge 68-29

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team cruised to a 68-29 victory over Cal State Northridge on Tuesday evening at the Save Mart Center. The 29 points is the fewest points a Bulldog team has allowed since 1974-75 when they defeated Cal Poly 53-22.
"We are very please tonight with our effort defensively," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "We felt like we pressured the ball well and had great help side defense. We got better and that was nice and refreshing to see. It was important that we played well tonight and we did."
Fresno State is now 6-2 while Northridge dropped to 1-8. The Bulldogs shot 43 percent from the floor and held Northridge to 20 percent shooting on 12-of-61 from the field. Fresno State out rebounded the Matadors 52-36 with Taja Edwards bringing down a career-high 13. The Bulldogs defense also forced Northridge into 21 turnovers.
The `Dogs had four players in double figures, led by 12 from Bailey Amundsen, Jaleesa Ross and Marnique Arnold. Joh-Teena Filipe added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.
The Bulldogs had 20 assists on the 23 made field goals.
"It seems like we shared the ball well," Wiggins said.
Other than a quick 2-0 lead by Northridge in the opening seconds, the Bulldogs never trailed. With 8:15 left until halftime, Fresno State led 16-8 and the Matadors were only able to muster three more points the rest of the half as the Bulldogs led 30-11 at halftime. Northridge hit only four field goals and shot 14 percent in the first half.
In the opening minutes of the second half Fresno State jumped out to a 42-16 lead with 14:16 left in the game after a 3-pointer by Filipe. The lead ballooned to 34 at 56-22 after a layup by Amundsen. Fresno State's biggest lead of the game was 42 at 67-25 with 2:02 to play.
Fresno State returns to the court on Saturday when they play at No. 3 Stanford. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. and the game can be heard live on 790 ESPN Radio, the Deuce.
