Bulldogs Win at San Marcos Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's golf team took the title at the CSU San Marcos Invitational led by Grant Doverspike who won the individual title. The Bulldogs shot 294-292-291 - 877 to finish on top out of a 19-team field. Point Loma Nazarene (885) took second eight strokes back from the `Dogs.
Grant Doverspike shot 70-69-69 - 208 to come out with the win three strokes ahead of Point Loma's Sam Cyr. Doverspike who sprained his thumb in the third round still managed to shoot a 3-under par 69 today. This will mark Doverspike's second tournament win, his first win came at the 2007 WAC Championships.
"I'm really proud of Grant," said head coach Mike Watney. "He played very solid golf even though he was unable to hit his strong shot he still kept it in play. He overcame adversity under unexpected circumstances and he did outstanding."
Matt Ryan (76-73-73 - 222) took 11th place after improving his score in the second and third round. Brad Wyatt (77-74-75 - 226) and freshman Michael Gideon (76-76-74 - 226) tied for 14th place with 10-over par. Todd Angel (72-81-75 - 228) tied for 26th place to round out the Bulldog line-up. Chris Arnold (80-78-82 - 240) played as an individual and tied for 70th place.
"I am really glad we got this tournament under our belt before we go to Hawaii," Watney said. "We got a lot of work to do before we go."
