Scouting Idaho
Despite a 5-17 overall record and a 2-9 WAC mark, the Vandals have held their home court, making the Cowan Spectrum a difficult place to play. Idaho is 5-5 at home this season and 2-3 in WAC home games, with wins over San Jose State and Louisiana Tech. Jordan Brooks continues to lead the Vandals in both scoring and rebounding, 12.3 points and 5.7 boards, respectively. Coach George Pfeifer is in his second season as head coach with a 9-44 overall record. Idaho is the WAC's best team at defending the long range shot, as teams are hitting just 33% of three point goals against the Vandals.
Against the Vandals
Although this series began in 1927, the two schools have met just eight times. The Dogs hold a 6-2 all-time lead in the series and are 4-1 in WAC games against the Vandals. The Dogs are 2-2 against Idaho in Moscow, 2-1 in the Cowan Spectrum/Kibbie Dome.
Bell Gets 1,000 Career Points
Senior Kevin Bell's last game was bitter-sweet, as the outstanding senior moved past 1,000 points in his career, but it happened in a loss to WAC-leader Utah State. Bell became the 27th Bulldog in history to reach that milestone and now has 1,012 points in his brilliant career.
Dwight's Back
Junior guard Dwight O'Neil was a welcome on the court last week. Even though he scored 10 points under his season average, his 19 minutes and defensive presence were helpful in his first game back against Louisiana Tech. O'Neil was cleared to play just hours before tip off of last Monday's game.
Hector's Highlights
Senior Hector Hernandez is coming off his best game of the season, in which he scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds against Utah State.
Bracketbuster: Fresno State vs. Cal Poly
This season's bracketbuster match-up has Cal Poly coming to the Save Mart Center on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. The Dogs and Mustangs will renew an age-old series. Because of this match-up, Fresno State will play a game at Cal Poly in the 2008-09 season.
Dogs Lead WAC in Defense
Fresno State is the WAC's top defensive squad, holding opponents to just 68.0 points per game this season. The Dogs are third in the WAC in field goal percentage defense (.432) and lead the WAC in three point field goal percentage defense (.332). Fresno State is also the WAC's top unit in takin care of the ball, with a +2.12 turnover margin. The Dogs average a league-low 11.8 turnovers per game, which ranks 10th in the NCAA
