`Dogs Win Best of the West

FRESNO, Calif. -
Fresno State beats out TCU to win the Best of the West home tournament that was held at the Student Horse Center. Fresno State beat TCU 7-4 overall and 5-1 in English.
In the first home tournament of the spring season the Bulldogs came out strong in both disciplines finishing first overall. TCU was second and followed by University of Tennessee-Martin and Delaware State in fourth.
Cambria Kissell and Lisa Wells dominated over Fences. Kissell scored a 93 on Olivia and Wells a 94 on Duncan to earn MVP honors. Katie Nenneker also picked up the third point with a 77 to sweep the Frogs in Fences. On the Flat Kirsten Sohns and Kelsey Bullock both gained wins. Bullock was the MVP on the Flat with a score of 66 on Olivia.
"I was very pleased with our English team," said head coach Becky Malmo. "Not only did they beat TCU 5-1, Lisa Wells had a score of 94 and Cambria Kissell had an 93. Both scores were remarkable."
Adrianne Smith had another strong performance today as she gained a win on Horsemanship as well as Marybeth Brown on Reining, Jill Tebbe tied with a 76.5 on Reining.
"There was great team-work all the way around," Malmo said. "We also had impressive rides from Western standouts Adrianne Smith, Jill Tebbe and captain Marybeth Brown. We are looking forward to the re-match at TCU next Friday. We also had great fan support and "Saddle Club" support for this event."
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The Fresno State equestrian team will take to the road this weekend. On Friday, February 22 the `Dogs will be in Dallas, Texas to compete against SMU. On Saturday, February 23 the team will be in Waco, Texas to take on Baylor. Finally, on Sunday, February 24 the `Dogs will compete against TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. The next home competition is March 1 vs. Auburn and March 2 vs. New Mexico State. Bulldog fans receive free admission to all home events.
