FRESNO, Calif. - Less than a week after beating TCU to the annual Best of the West Tournament, Fresno State found its first road trip of the season not to friendly, losing to the Horned Frogs 10-5. The Dogs began the day with a win over SMU in an English-only event in Mansfield, Texas, before heading to Fort Worth to take on TCU.
The Dogs are in the midst of a Texas road trip that includes a match at Baylor on Saturday.
Fresno State got solid performances from several riders, especially Mallory Hames and Lindsay Blair in Equitation on the Flat. Each rider scored at least 80 points, led by Blair who was the MVP of the event with an 83 in her victory over Kindel Huffman. Kirsten Sohns won her match as the Dogs took three of four matches in that event.
Lisa Wells continues to ride well in Equitation over Fences, as she scored a 79. She was the only Dog to earn a win in that category.
Several high scores were registered in Western Horsemanship, led by Rebecca Flood's 72, and Adrianne Smith with a 70.5. Asheline Beeson won her match with a 68.5.
Jillian Tebbe was the top reiner for the Dogs with a 67.5.
"We had some good rides and performance," said head coach Becky Malmo. "We had a great win over SMU in English and a tough loss against TCU. This is a tough road trip. We had a long day today and we are on the road to Baylor. It's tough to compete in multiple places in one week, let alone one day. We have some wonderful and supportive fans and parents on this trip and that's really helped. We are excited to compete against Baylor tomorrow."
