Cervantez Hits Home Run, `Dogs Win 3-0

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team began the final day of the Palm Springs Classic with a 3-0 win over Long Island. The Bulldogs are now 6-0 all time vs. the Blackbirds and improve to 8-2 on the season. Freshman Morgan Melloh earned her seventh win on the mound for Fresno State. The game last just one hour and fifteen minutes.
Caitlin Stiglich hit a single to center field with two outs in the top of the first for the Bulldogs first hit of the game. Jenna Cervantez followed as she hit her third home run of the season with a laser to center field.
Aja Scheuber hit a single to center field and stole second. Melloh reached first on an error by the first baseman which scored Scheuber to give the Bulldogs the 3-0 lead.
Freshman Andrea Ortega made her first start of the year in right field. Melloh had 11 strikeouts in the game.
Fresno State concludes play in the Palm Springs Classic as they play UMass at 12:30 p.m. The game can be heard live on 790 The Deuce ESPN Radio with Guy Haberman calling the action.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The Fresno State softball team will return home for a doubleheader Monday, February 25 at 6 p.m. against Eastern Michigan. February 25 is Monday Madness and general admission tickets are just $1 on game day.
