Dogs Host WAC-Leading Aggies

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresh off a win over Louisiana Tech, Fresno State welcomes the WAC's hottest team to the Save Mart Center on Thursday. Utah State (16-6, 6-1) invades the Save Mart Center at 7 p.m. The Aggies bring with them the WAC's tops scorer in Jaycee Carroll and he will face a Fresno State team that leads the WAC in defense.

Scouting Utah State
The hottest team in the league, the Aggies have won 13 of their last 15 games and are 6-1 in the WAC heading into Thursday's game with the Bulldogs. Senior Jaycee Carroll continues to lead the WAC in scoring, 21.2 points per game. Carroll makes better than 50% of his three point attempts. Coach Stew Morrill is the dean of WAC coaches in his 10th season at the school. They Aggies are coming off a 77-63 home win over Nevada last Saturday night.
Against Utah State
The Aggies own a 21-19 lead in a series that began in 1964. The Dogs have won three of the last four in the series, all in the Steve Cleveland era, and swept the Aggies last season by winning 79-70 at home and 71-66 in Logan.
Bell Closing in on 1,000 Career Points
Senior Kevin Bell needs eight points for 1,000 in his career, and based on his present scoring pace should reach that by halftime of the Utah State game. Bell would become the 27th Bulldog in history to reach the milestone.
Dwight's Back
Junior guard Dwight O'Neil was a welcome on the court Monday in the win over Louisiana Tech. Even though he scored 10 points under his season average, his 19 minutes and defensive presence were helpful. O'Neil was cleared to play just hours before tip off of Monday's game.
Monday Madness Revisted
In Monday's contest against Louisiana Tech, a 70-58 Fresno State victory, the game was never is doubt as Fresno State held a 25 point on two different occassion. It saw the return to action of junior guard Dwight O'Neil, who had missed 18 games with an injury. That was the final Monday game of the season for the Dogs.
Bracketbuster: Fresno State vs. Cal Poly
This season's bracketbuster match-up has Cal Poly coming to the Save Mart Center on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. The Dogs and Mustangs will renew an age-old series. Because of this match-up, Fresno State will play a game at Cal Poly in the 2008-09 season.
Working for the Weekend
For the second straight week, the Dogs have the weekend off. Each of the last two weeks, Fresno State has enjoyed Monday and Thursday games, giving them "free"weekends.
Looking Ahead
The Dogs are on the road next week, at Idaho on Feb. 14 and at Boise State on Feb. 16.
