Ashley Cox Pitches Gem, `Dogs Win 10-0 in Five

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - For the second consecutive game, a Fresno State freshman pitcher earned her first win in her first start of the season as Ashley Cox and the No. 22 ranked Bulldogs defeated Harvard 10-0 in five innings on day two of the San Diego Classic.
Haley Perkins led the game off with a triple to right center field. Caitlin Stiglich hit a blooper to right field which scored Perkins from third to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
On her second pitch of the night, senior Jenna Cervantez hit her fifth home run of the season, a team-high, with a shot to left field and to pick up an RBI.
With one out, Aja Scheuber walked on four-straight pitches and was out on second on a fielder's choice which sent Lisamarie Coronado to first.
Lindsay Milchovich would walk and reached second on a single to center field by Andrea Ortega which scored Coronado from second to make it 4-0 Fresno State.
Michelle Palazuelos walked to load the bases with two outs and bring the leadoff batter Haley Perkins but the Bulldogs would leave the bases loaded after getting four runs in the top of the first.
Lindsay Milchovich hit an infield single to the shortstop and advanced to second on a single to right center by Andrea Ortega in the top of the third.
Amanda Watkins entered for Harvard to replace the starting pitcher Bailey Vertovez. Palazuelos hit a sacrifice bunt to third base to advance the runners to second and third with one out. Perkins then walked to load bases.
With two outs, Watkins walked Stiglich to score Milchovich from third. Cervantez double to left field to score Ortega and Perkins and the Bulldogs scored three runs in the third to increase their lead to 7-0.
Perkins would walk with one out on four-straight pitches in the top of the fifth. Stiglich and Cervantez would follow with walks as well to load the bases with two outs.
Scheuber cleared the bases with a double to left center to give the `Dogs the 10-0 lead. Cox would retire all three Crimson batters in the bottom of the fifth to earn the win.
Cox ended with a season-high four strikeouts in her second appearance of the season and allowed only three hits. The five innings she appeared made it her longest outing of the year.
The Bulldogs are now 14-3 on the season while Harvard drops to 0-4. This was the first meeting between the two since 2000, and the Bulldogs lead the overall series now 6-0.
