Angene Double Clears Bases as `Dogs Win in Nine

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - In their first extra inning game of the season, the Bulldogs rallied in the top of the ninth in the first-ever meeting between Fresno State and the Dukes from James Madison, to win their seventh-straight, 3-0.
The Bulldogs had the first chance to score in the fourth after a Jenna Cervantez double to left field. Aja Scheuber was then hit by a pitch. Lisamarie Coronado reached first on a fielder's choice. The Bulldogs would leave two runners on base.
In the top of the seventh, Nicole Angene hit a blooper to right field with one out. Ali King entered to pinch run but the Bulldogs would leave a runner on and head to the bottom of the seventh where Morgan Melloh and the Bulldogs were able to get out of the inning and send the game to extra innings.
With one out in the top of the ninth, Lisamarie Coronado and Morgan Melloh reached base on two separate errors.
Jenny Clohan entered in relief for JMU after Meredith Felts went 8.1 innings and gave up four hits and was responsible for the first two runners on base.
Nicole Angene hit a double to center field to clear the bases to put the `Dogs up 2-0. A Haley Perkins triple to center would score Angene from second and extend the lead to 3-0.
The Bulldogs finished 5-0 at the San Diego Classic I and improved to 15-3 on the season, the best start to a season for Fresno State since the 1999 season.
James Madison falls to 7-5 on the season.
Melloh won her 10th game of the season as she is now 10-1 and recorded 10 strikeouts. Angene led the `Dogs with a career-high three hits in the game.
The Bulldogs will now return to Bulldog Diamond for 13-straight home games.
