No. 22 `Dogs Win Fifth Straight

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Freshman Ryane Petersen from Bullard high school made her first start of the season against the Peahens and her second appearance of the season as she is now 1-0. Petersen ended the game with five strikeouts and allowed only four hits and no runs in five innings, as the No. 22 Bulldogs defeated Saint Peter's 8-0 on day two of the San Diego Classic.
The first hit of the game came in the bottom of the first when Haley Gilleland hit a tricky infield single to the shortstop. Caitlin Stiglich walked on four pitches. Double-steal would get Gilleland to third and she would score off an infield sacrifice by Jenna Cervantez to give the `Dogs the 1-0 lead.
An Aja Scheuber single to right field would score Stiglich from third and with two outs the Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead.
Lisamarie Coronado would walk and move Scheuber to second. Nicole Angene would hit a double off the wall to left field to clear the bases and give the Bulldogs the 4-0 lead. It was Angene's third double of the year and her first two-RBI game.
Andrea Ortega would hit her first double of the year to score Angene from second. It was Ortega's second hit and second RBI of the season in her second start.
The Bulldogs would take a 5-0 lead after one inning.
Haley Perkins would lead off the second inning with her second triple of the season to right field. Gilleland would then reach first on a fielder's choice.
Scheuber walked to load the bases with two outs, but the Bulldogs would leave the bases loaded in the second.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Stiglich reached second on an error and Mallory Perkins who entered to pinch run for her reached third on a wild pitch. Cervantez hit a single to left field to score Mallory Perkins from third and increase the Bulldogs lead to 6-0.
Cervantez stole third and Scheuber walked. Scheuber then stole second to put runners on second and third with still two outs.
Coronado then hit a single to left field to clear the bases and in the bottom of the fourth it was 8-0 Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs had nine total hits in the game. Fresno State will play Harvard at USD at 7 p.m.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The Fresno State softball team continues play at the San Diego State Classic on Saturday, March 1 versus Harvard at 7 p.m. The next home game is a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 4 against Campbell beginning at 6 p.m. on Two-for-Tuesdays where tickets and hot dogs are buy one get one free.
