No. 18 `Dogs Host Bears in Doubleheader

FRESNO, Calif. - In the last home non-conference game before WAC play begins, the Fresno State softball team will host Northern Colorado in a doubleheader tonight beginning at 6 p.m. at Bulldog Diamond. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Game one can be seen on Comcast Channel 14 with Guy Haberman and Sarah Teachey broadcasting live. The first game can also be heard live on 790 ESPN Radio the Deuce and game two on 1430 ESPN Radio with Paul Swearengin calling both games.
With a 23-5 record, the Bulldogs are ranked No. 18 by USA Softball and No. 21 by the NFCA as of last Tuesday. The new polls will be released later today.
Northern Colorado is 6-25 on the season and competes as an Independent. As a third-year Division I school, it competes in the Big Sky Conference for most sports.
Fresno State is 12-2 at home this season with the two losses coming to top 15 ranked Houston last week. The Bulldogs defeated No. 8 Oklahoma 1-0 last Thursday as freshman pitcher Morgan Melloh pitched a two-hitter in a complete game against the Sooners.
Melloh earned her third WAC Pitcher of the Week honor for her performances against Oklahoma and Houston last week.
With a week before WAC play begins, the Bulldogs see themselves on top in non-conference WAC standings in many team and individual categories.
Melloh leads the conference with a 0.69 ERA, 163 strikeouts, a .147 opponent batting average, 33 batters who have struck out looking, 122.0 innings pitched and 14 wins. She is second in saves with three and games started with 15 and third in appearances with 22.
As a team, the Bulldogs are second in team batting wit ha .302 percentage, first in pitching with a 1.13 ERA and in team fielding wit ha .976 percentage.
Junior Haley Perkins ranks first in the conference with six triples, third with 39 hits and fourth with a .398 hitting percentage.
April 4th is Domestic Violence Prevention Night at Bulldog Diamond. At tonight's game, fans are asked to donate women's shoes, sizes nine and up, at the front entrance of Bulldog Diamond for the April 4th Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. Those who donate will receive a ticket voucher for Fresno State softball.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will include men from the Fresno community who will walk a mile through Fresno, concluding with a pre-game walk into Bulldog Diamond to remember all of the loved ones lost or that are still suffering from Domestic Violence.
Monetary donations will also be accepted at the April 4th game as the funds will be divided between the Women's Resource Center at Fresno State and the Marjaree Mason Center.
