No. 16 Bulldogs Sweep Harvard in Doubles

FRESNO, Calif. - FRESNO, Calif. - The 16th-ranked Fresno State Women's Tennis team defeated Harvard 5-2, after sweeping the Crimson in doubles, 3-0. The Bulldogs won the doubles point, and then went on the win four singles matches to secure the win over Harvard.
"It was a good win today, it felt nice to get back into the winning way," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "We tried different combos in doubles and we were victorious with the different teams."
Playing at the No. 1 spot, Rentata Kucerkova and Tinesta Rowe played together for the first time and were successful, beating Peterzan and Schnitter 8-5.
Also playing for the first time together this season, Junior Danon Beatty and Sophomore Anastasia Petukhova played at the No. 2 spot defeating Ko and Rosekrans 8-6.
At the No. 3 spot for the Bulldogs, Jacqueline Haskett and Bruna Paes dominated their match, beating Curto and Stewart 8-2.
"We wanted to win and we came together as a team to play well," Senior Jacqueline Haskett said. "We were playing without Melanie, one of our top players, but we still came together to win the match."
Despite having to end her match early due to a Harvard retirement, Petukhova won at the No. 1 spot against Ko, 6-1, 3-0. Petukhova has been playing well in the No. 1 spot, improving her record to 3-0 at that spot.
Playing at the No. 2 spot for the first time this season, Sophomore Kucerkova took control of her match, defeating Peterzan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
At the No. 3 spot, Rowe continued to show the strength of the Bulldogs by defeating Rosekrans 6-4, 6-2.
Dominating at the No. 6 spot, Paes won her match 6-0, 6-2 over Curto to ensure the Bulldogs 5-2 win over Harvard.
"Now we are looking forward to working hard to prepare for our home matches, as well as practicing for the WAC Championships," Haskett said.
The Bulldogs return home on Sunday April 6th at noon to face 18th-ranked Pepperdine at the Wathen Tennis Center.
