Bulldogs Comeback to Tie for Fifth

The Fresno State women's golf team rallied in the second round at the par 72 Lincoln Golf Club for the NCAA Western Regional Preview hosted by Sacramento State. The Bulldogs posted 305-293 - 598 to tie with UC Irvine for fifth place. Denver has a comfortable lead sitting at 2-over par with 578. Washington State is 12-strokes back in second followed by Oregon with 592. UNLV is one stroke ahead of the `Dogs with 597.
Laura Luethke was the top `Dog tying for 15th place after two rounds. Luethke fired 75-73 - 148 to finish 4-over par going into the third round. Hali Coppin tied for 21st place with 5-over 149 followed by Pia Escandon. Escandon tied for 24th place with two rounds of 75 to finish 6-over on the day. Taylor Siebert had the biggest second round comeback for the `Dogs to tie for 41st place. After shooting a first round 82, Siebert drained four birdies to fire the Bulldogs second round low score of 71. Chelsea Czinski tied for 67th place with 80-77 - 157.
"I am really proud of the team for the comeback they made in the second round," said head coach Angie Cates. "Individually everybody played great in the second round, it was the first time this season our throw out score was a 77. We are definitely moving in the right direction and making progress. We are playing well this spring and moving up in the rankings."
Amy Eneroth of Washington State is the current individual leader with 5-under par. Eneroth has a four stroke lead over Denver's Katie Kempter and Alice Kim playing as an individual for UC Davis.
The final 18 holes will begin Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. at the Lincoln Golf Club in Lincoln, Calif.
