'Dogs Win Battle of Top 25 Teams

FRESNO, Calif. - For the first time this season the Bulldogs played another top 25 ranked team while they were ranked, as No. 21/23 ranked Fresno State defeated No. 16/19 DePaul 4-2 on day one of the Bingham Toyota Classic at Bulldog Diamond Thursday night.
Freshman shortstop Haley Gilleland walked with one out and then stole second, her seventh steal of the season. She reached third on a passed ball by DePaul's catcher and Jenna Cervantez would walk. Gilleland would then score on an error by the catcher to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead in the first.
Left fielder Ashley White led off the bottom of the third with her third double of the season to center field.
Haley Perkins followed with a triple to right field to extend her hitting streak to 11 games and has now hit a triple in five of the last six games.
Caitlin Stiglich hit a single to left field to score Perkins from third to give Fresno State the 3-0 lead after three.
Gilleland had an infeld single and advanced to second a flyout to center. She would then score her second run of the night off a double by Aja Scheuber to make it 4-0 Fresno State.
DePaul catcher Jackie Tarulli-Fisher hit a double to center field to lead off the top of the sixth. Sarah Shizas would pinch run and reach third on a wild pitch. She would score the first run of the game for the Blue Demons off a sacrifice fly to left field by Marcy Wilus.
The Blue Demons would mount a comeback in the top of the seventh and get one run, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs hung on for the win.
Melloh is now 12-1 on the season as the Bulldogs improve to 18-3.
In the first two games of the Bingham Toyota Classic, Santa Clara defeated Rhode Island 5-1 and No. 16-19 DePaul defeated Rhode Island 3-2.
