Cervantez Eighth-Inning Home Run Powers `Dogs to Win

SAN JOSE, Calif. - An Aja Scheuber single to center field followed by a Jenna Cervantez two-run home run in the top of the eighth powered the No. 12/12 Fresno State softball past San Jose State 2-0 in WAC play Friday night at the SJSU Field.
Fresno State improves to 40-8 on the year and 6-3 in WAC play. This is the second-straight season in which the Bulldogs have won 40 games.
Cervantez now has 10 home runs on the year and 24 in her career as a Bulldog to rank her seventh all-time in Fresno State history.
The Bulldogs would play their fourth extra inning game of the season and improve to 2-2 in extra innings.
With a stolen base in the first inning, Haley Gilleland moved up to third on the single-season list with 17 on the year.
Bulldog pitcher Morgan Melloh allowed three hits and struck out 10 and only walking two. The Bulldog hitters finished with five hits, two by Cervantez and one each by Melloh, Scheuber and Nicole Angene.
San Jose State falls to 23-26 overall and 3-7 in conference.
The Bulldogs and Spartans conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon at SJSU Field.
