FRESNO, Calif. - In just three months the new swimming and diving program will begin it's inaugural season as Fresno State announced the 2008-09 schedule. The Bulldogs will have 10 meets leading up to the WAC Championships Feb. 25-28 in San Antonio, Texas. All meets the first season will be on the road as Fresno State is projected to have the Bulldogs pool ready for the 2009-10 season.
"I'm excited to start competing," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "It'll be a rough schedule but we want to see how close we can get to these teams and hopefully we can surprise a few."
The Bulldogs begin the season in October at UC Santa Cruz and will also compete vs. San Jose State. Swimmers only will compete Oct. 24-25 at the Washington State Invitational in Pullman, Wash.
Fresno State then competes at UC San Diego, San Diego State, Boise State and at the Cal Poly Invitational to close out the 2008 calendar year.
In January 2009, Fresno State picks up competition at UC Davis against the Aggies and San Jose State. They then travel down highway 99 to Cal State Bakersfield before competing against the University of San Diego and Loyola Marymount in San Diego. The regular season wraps up at San Jose State on Feb. 7.
"It'll be tough the entire first year on the road," added Fleck. "We are excited that the teams we are competing against are willing to swim us this first year and teams like San Jose State are swimming against us three times. All of our meets are a buildup for the WAC Championships in February."
