'Dogs Fall to Aggies

FRESNO, Calif. - Despite a career-high nine kills by sophomore Kasey Van Grouw, the Fresno State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to UC Davis Saturday in the Fresno State Invitational. The `Dogs are now 1-1 on the season after winning Friday's opening match vs. Cal State Bakersfield. Set scores were 27-25, 25-21 and 25-0.
Van Grouw also had a career-high .444 hitting percentage to lead the team. Freshman Brianna Clarke led the way for the `Dogs for the second-straight match with 11 kills.
UC Davis is also 1-1 on the season as they were led by Renee Ibekwe with 15 kills.
In the 10 a.m. match, St. Mary's defeated Cal State Bakersfield 3-0 to improve to 2-0 and drop the Roadrunners to 0-2. The Fresno State Invitational concludes with Cal State Bakersfield taking on UC Davis at 5 p.m. followed by Fresno State vs. St. Mary's.
"For tonight we want to come back strong and with the fire that we had last night," said sophomore libero Kelly Mason. "It wasn't quite there for this afternoon match and we want to come out stronger tonight and work on what we have been taught over the past couple of months."
