Women in Fifth, Men in Seventh a Giustina Memorial

FRESNO, Calif.-The men and women's Fresno State golf team finished two rounds today at the 2008 Giustina Memorial Classic at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore. Both teams are competing separately against the nine other teams and also have a combined score.
The men's golf team (285-290 - 575) is currently in seventh place after shooting two rounds of competition. Junior Grant Doverspike and Senior Matt Ryan are both tied for sixth place.
Ryan started strong with a first round of 69, his second round score was even. Doverspike shot 75-66. His 66 was the best round in the tournament. Sophomore Bryan Hogan (70-75 -145) is currently in 28th place. Michael Gideon is in 39th place after shooting a two round total of 148. Junior Brad Wyatt (79-77-156) is tied for 47th.
Washington State and San Francisco are currently tied for first place at 565.
"This is a very tight competition and we will make a come back if we pick up our consistency," Coach Watney said.
"We are only 10 strokes behind the leaders and that's not hard to make up. Anyone in the top seven is capable of winning the tournament."
The women's team is currently in fifth place. The Bulldogs shot 311-306-617 to finish 12 strokes behind San Francisco. Oregon is currently in first place with a total of 594. The host tam, Oregon State, is in second place (601). Washington State and San Francisco are currently tied for third shooting 605.
Sophomore Chelsea Czinski is leading the Dogs and is currently tied for 11th place. She shot a first round of 80, but came back in the second, shooting one under par.
"Chelsea is the reason our team moved up the leader board after the second round," Coach Angie Cates-Moore said.
"I tip my hat to Chelsea, her short game was phenomenal," Coach Watney said, after witnessing Czinski take control of the course in the second round.
Senior Taylor Siebert (154) is tied for 19th place. Both junior Pia Escandon and freshman Louisa Lies finished the day at 14-over and were tied for 30th. Hali Coppin finished in a tie for 35th (16-over)
