Jensen Scores First Goal of the Season

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State lost a tough game, 2-1, against Seattle University Friday night. Alex Jensen scored her first career goal against the Redhawks.
"Seattle is a good team and they played hard," said Coach Steve Springthorpe. "They came in and took it to us. They helped us realize some things about ourselves."
The Bulldogs came out with intensity taking control early in the game and creating opportunities on goal. The defense came out ready to play and made key stops in the midfield.
The first half was full of close calls for the Bulldogs. Selena Gill had a close call as she nearly headed the ball in the back of the net off a corner kick from Lauren Satterlee.
Molly Nizzoli also had a close call at a goal when she attempted to cross the ball and hit the crossbar. Nicole Gutierrez just missed the cross from Kendall VanDine. The Bulldogs out shot Seattle 4-3 in the first half and the Redhawks goalie recorded saves in the first half.
The score at halftime was tied at zero each.
Seattle scored the first goal of the game off a penalty kick. Bulldog goalkeeper Kaitlyn Revel came out to pressure a ball and missed. She turned to recover and a foul was called.
Kassandra Riozzi took the penalty kick for Seattle and knocked passed Revel.
Five minutes later Jamie Coe put the ball in the back of the net off a pass from Kahlyn Keilty-Lucas.
The Bulldogs continued to fire shots at Seattle goalie Madison Goverde. Gutierrez had a another attempt on goal and barely missed.
Jensen scored the Bulldogs lone goal after the Redhawks cleared a corner kick from Satterlee. Jensen capitalized on the cleared ball knocking it past Goverde.
The physical matched ended in a 2-1 victory for Seattle.
The Bulldogs host Sacramento State on Sunday Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium. The team will be signing autographs following the game.
