FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team returns to the Save Mart Center for its WAC home opener on Saturday (Sept. 27) as the Bulldogs host the Spartans of San Jose State at 7 p.m. Fresno State improved to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the WAC after a thrilling five-set win over Utah State on Thursday in Logan, Utah.
The Bulldogs are in sole possession of third place in the WAC, trailing only Hawai'i and New Mexico, both undefeated at 2-0.
At 2-1 in conference play, the Bulldogs are off to their best conference start since they started 2-1 back in 2003.
San Jose State is 5-8 overall and 1-2 in the WAC, picking up its first conference win on Thursday, a 3-2 victory over Nevada.
"If we play well we have a really good shot of beating San Jose State on Saturday," said head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell.
The Bulldogs played nine-straight matches on the road, beginning with the Wisconsin-Green Bay tournament on Sept. 5. Fresno State then competed at the Cal State Bakersfield Invitational before opening conference play at New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech.
San Jose State leads the overall series against the Bulldogs, 45-23, winning the last four, including a 3-1 victory on Nov. 1, 2007.
"It will be a battle, but it is good to get home," Netherby-Sewell said. "It's been a rough road trip but the team has been positive through it all and everyone is ready to get back home and play on our home court."
The match will be aired live on Comcast Channel 14 with Randy Rosenbloom and Mark Lowe calling the action from the Save Mart Center.
Saturday's match is `Team Picture Night.' The volleyball team will be available for pictures in the West Concourse of the SMC following the match.
