`Dogs Conclude Play in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Fresno State concluded play in the Country Inn and Suites/Green Bay Classic Saturday, falling in two tough matches to Green Bay and Drake both in five sets. The Bulldogs are now 2-4 on the season.
Match One: Green Bay 3, Fresno State 2
The Bulldogs came out strong to start the match, winning set one 25-21 but dropped sets two and three by scores of 21-25 and 21-17. In a must-win set, Fresno State overcame a 6-0 deficit to win 25-22. The host Phoenix however, struck first in set five and were too much for the Bulldogs as they won the set and match 15-10.
Baylee Platt led the Bulldogs for the second-straight match with 19 kills. Brianna Clarke added 12 kills on a career-high .423 hitting percentage. Several other Bulldogs also had season and career-highs including Kasey Van Grouw with 10 kills (career-high) and 16 digs (season-high). Lacey Gera also had a season-high with 11 kills while Allanah Munson had a career-high 52 assists.
As a team, the Bulldogs hit a season-high in one set with a .341 percentage. They also led Green Bay in digs with 83.
Match Two: Drake 3, Fresno State 2
Fresno State took set one 25-18 but Drake fought back to take set two by the same score. Drake had a 2-1 set lead after taking set three 25-19.
Set four went to the `Dogs, much like it did in match one by a score of 25-20. Drake then took control of set five for a 10-4 win and match victory.
Tairyn Rasmussen tied her career-high with 17 kills. Kasey Van Grouw tied her career-high of 10 kills she set in the first match this morning.
Baylee Platt added 18 kills, bringing her total for the tournament to a team-leading 58.
Fresno State hit an impressive .533 in set one, breaking its record from the previous match for hitting percentage in a single set this season.
Northern Arizona was declared tournament winners after defeating Green Bay in the final match. Brittany Stowers was named tournament MVP. Also named to the all-tournament team from NAU were Lexi Sulivan and Katie Bailey, from Drake, Anggela Bys and Alana Wittenburg, from Green Bay, Megan Elfering and from Fresno State, Baylee Platt.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The Fresno State volleyball team heads to the Cal State Bakersfield tournament September 12-13. The Bulldogs will battle Cal State Bakersfield on Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, September 13 the `Dogs face Arizona at 12:00 p.m. and Chicago State at 4:30 p.m. The next home match is Saturday, September 27 against San Jose State in the WAC home opener.
