Garcia Leads Team to Sixth

FRESNO, Calif. - Erick Garcia led the way for the Fresno State men's cross country team at the UC Irvine/ Asics Collegiate Invitational Saturday. The women also had a solid performance in Irvine.
Garcia ran a 25:36.10 in the 8K to lead the Bulldogs to sixth of 13 as a team. Frank Sanders was the team's number two racer, clocking a 26:30.70 for 31st. Freshman Eric Battles put in a strong performance in his first 8K race, finishing in 27:04.80 to take 46th. Max Hernandez was just a few ticks back to finish the race in 27:14.80 for 51st. Elijah Carillo rounded out the team's top five finishers, crossing at 27:17.30 for 56th.
Marissa McPhail had the women's top finish in the 5K, timing in at 19:15.30 for 54th. Jennifer Hernandez had a solid individual performance, finishing in 19:40.10 in the team's first 5K of the season. Briana Cleary was the team's No. 3 with a 19:59.80 time. Jocelyn Oviedo and Sasha Souder ran together near the end of the race, clocking in at 23:14.10 and 23:28.40 respectively.
The women will race again Sept. 20 at the Roadrunner Invitational. The team will reunite for the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 27.
