FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs will travel to the south Valley on Saturday, Jan. 17 to the face the roadrunners of Cal State Bakersfield at 1 p.m. at the Hillman Aquatics Center for its closest home meet of the season.
Host team Bakersfield is 1-6 entering Saturday's meet after a loss to WAC powerhouse San Jose State Jan. 3. Fresno State is 0-6 following its Jan. 10 meet against the Aggies of UC Davis and WAC foe San Jose State, gaining momentum after a strong diving performance and slew of best times.
"We're really excited for this meet," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "We had an ok meet against UC Davis but we still have some things to work on. We want to fix as many things as we can going in. The team is excited because we line up well with Bakersfield at the top. The middle competitors are going to have great races and that makes it a lot more fun for them. The meet will be more competitive at the top and the middle."
Following an impressive performance last weekend, the divers look forward to hitting the boards again on Saturday.
"This weekend is going to be fun," said head diving coach Taryn Ignacio. "I think the swimmers and divers are going to do really well and continue to earn lifetime bests."
A little over 100 miles away, Bakersfield is the closest meet for the Bulldogs, who are not hosting any home meets this season. The event is free of cost to all fans and onlookers.
"We really encourage everyone to come out and support the team and the program on Saturday," said head coach Jeanne Fleck.
Saturday's meet will be the first and only meeting between the Bulldogs and Roadrunners since 2001, when they competed at home in a non-scored exhibition rally.
