Saturday Night Rematch As `Dogs Visit Spartans

FRESNO, Calif. - After earning their first conference victory of the season in a 17-point victory over Louisiana Tech on Thursday night, Fresno State travels to San Jose for a 7 p.m. PST Saturday night (Jan. 24) rematch with the Spartans. This is a one-game road trip for the `Dogs before returning home for a two-game set next week at the Save Mart Center.

About the Spartans
San Jose State University enters the week 8-9 on the season and 2-4 in WAC play. The Spartans are led by Adrian Oliver (15.6 ppg) and Tim Pierce (15.1 ppg & 6.5 rpg). San Jose State was picked to finish fourth in the WAC by the coaches and sixth by the media during the 2008-09 preseason polls.

Fresno State leads the overall series with San Jose State, 76-71. The `Dogs have won 19 of the past 23 meetings between the schools. The Spartans edged the Bulldogs 71-68 in overtime back on Jan. 10, 2009 in the two schools first meeting this year.
LAST GAME: `Dogs Down LA Tech For First WAC Win
Four Bulldogs reached double figures as a strong Fresno State team effort downed Louisiana Tech, 63-46, on Thursday night in the Save Mart Center. Freshman guard Paul George recorded a team-high 16 points while junior forward Sylvester Seay added 15 points and seven rebounds for Fresno State (8-11, 1-4 WAC), which held Louisiana Tech to 31.6 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers. Freshman guards Bryce Cartwright and Mychal Ladd also scored in double digits with Cartwright dropping in 12 and Ladd finishing with 10 points. Sophomore forward Nedeljko Golubovic grabbed a team-high nine rebounds while scoring eight points with a stifling defensive effort.

LAST WEEK: Seay Soars In Logan; Comeback Just Short in Reno
While executing their game plan to near perfection, junior forward Sylvester Seay soared to a dominating career-high 32-point night as the Bulldog's upset bid to stop the Aggie's 26-game home winning streak ended in a 65-61 loss at Utah State on Thursday night in the packed Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Fresno State had led 32-28 at halftime. On the night, the `Dogs shot 47 percent from the field against the first-place Aggies, who remained undefeated in conference play. Later in the week, Fresno State fought back from a 15-point hole midway through the second half before falling 65-60 to the five-time defending WAC champion Nevada Wolf Pack in the Lawlor Events Center. George recorded a team-high 16 points and nine boards while Golubovic also picked up nine rebounds (tying a career-high). Seay added 13 points and eight rebounds.
