FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State will voyage to the south land on Saturday to compete in the Palm Tree Invitational hosted on the campus of University of San Diego at 10:30 a.m. against the Toreros and Loyola Marymount University.
The invitational format will follow a three-session agenda, starting with the 200 freestyle relay and concluding with the 400 freestyle event in the third and final session. In addition, scoring will follow an invitational format, where the two top relays per team will score and individual events unlimited scoring.
"I'm excited to have the format of this invitational," said head coach Jeanne Fleck. "It will give us a good idea of the sessions and schedule that will follow at the WAC Championships."
The Toreros are 0-4 in dual meets entering Saturday's invitational, following a loss at Northern Arizona Jan. 24. Joining the competition is Loyola Marymount, which is 2-5 after a similar loss to Northern Arizona on Jan. 17.
"I'm excited to see how we will do," said Fleck. "Since none of our girls have never been to a college conference meet they will be inexperienced with the format but this invitational will help us prepare and practice."
Fresno State is 0-7 following close fall to Cal State Bakersfield Jan. 17. Saturday's invitational is the second to the last meet for swimmers before they head off to the WAC Championships Feb. 25-28 in San Antonio, Texas. The Bulldog divers will compete in two meets after Saturday before competing in San Antonio.
