FRESNO, Calif. - Last year the Fresno State women's lacrosse team had only three home games but still led the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in attendance. For 2010 the Bulldogs have doubled their home games to six along with playing exciting nonconference games on the East coast.
"We are excited for the 2010 season," Fresno State coach Sue Behme said. "It is nice to have the ability to schedule six home game in comparison to last season's three home games. We are excited that our great fans and our community will have the opportunity to see so many lacrosse games in Bulldog Stadium. Our support is unbelievable."
The Bulldogs open the season on February 26 at LaSalle and play their home opener on March 11 against the University of Detroit. That starts a stretch of five straight home games where the Dogs play Iona on March 19, Cincinnati on March 23, Stanford on April 2 and Oregon on April 4. The final home game is against UC Davis April 23. The final four home games are all conference games.
The Bulldogs open the season playing back East for two weeks as they play at LaSalle (Feb. 26), Villanova (Feb. 28), Central Connecticut (March 3), UMBC (March 5) and Navy (March 7).
"I think our non-conference games prepare us well for our MPSF Conference games against, Stanford, Cal, Oregon, Denver, St. Mary's and UC Davis," Behme said. "We are fortunate to have some really great teams traveling to Fresno to play from all over the country. This is beginning of many great things to come. Our number one goal is to stay focused on one game at a time whether it be on the road or at home."
The road games in league are against Saint Mary's (April 7), Denver (April 17) and Cal (April 25).
The people of the Central Valley will have a unique opportunity to become familiar with the sport of lacrosse on Feb. 6 when the Bulldogs will scrimmage the Fresno Men's Club team.
The game will be played with women's lacrosse rules and provide fans an opportunity to see what men's lacrosse looks like.
"This is a unique opportunity for Fresno State lacrosse to support the lacrosse community here in Fresno and the Central Valley," Behme said. "It provides us with an opportunity to promote both women's and men's lacrosse. As a coaching staff, we are looking for a great turn-out so that we have the opportunity to educate the community while the game is in progress and after the game." The Bulldogs will also play an Alumni game on Feb. 28.
