Clarke Posts Season-High 20 Kills at CSUB

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldog volleyball team concluded non-conference action with a tough 3-2 loss at Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday night. Set scores were 25-23, 31-33, 19-25, 25-17 and 15-9. The `Dogs are 13-15 on the year.
The `Dogs were down by as many as five in the first set (10-5) but fought back late to get within one at 23-22 and at 24-23 but CSUB held on to take set one.
Brianna Clarke led the `Dogs with six kills on eight attempts and no errors (.750) in set one. Kelly Leonardo added four kills on six attempts and no errors (.667). The `Dogs hit .378 in the set but CSUB hit .472 to take the hitting edge.
In a close set two, the `Dogs held the lead much of the way and were up by as many as three with back-to-back blocks by Clarke and Lauren Berger.
The Roadrunners tied the set at 16 but the `Dogs got a kill by Kelli Parker to give the lead back to Fresno State.
The set was tied at 24 and each team had multiple chances for set point and the `Dogs capitalized with back-to-back kills by Marissa Brand and a kill by Clarke to take set two and tie the match.
Parker led the `Dogs with six kills in the set. Allanah Munson added 14 assists and Kelly Mason had nine digs.
Berger led the `Dogs with five kills in set three as there were just two ties early on but Fresno State had control most of the set to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
In must-win set for the home team, CSUB took an early 4-0 lead and never trailed as they were up by as many as nine and tied the match at 2-2.
The `Dogs were down early in the fifth set but got back within two (10-8) before CSUB went on to take the set and match.
Clarke led the `Dogs with a season-high 20 kills and seven block assists. Parker added 15 kills and 13 digs and Berger and Marissa Brand added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Kelly Mason tied a career-high with 25 digs. Munson ended the night with 43 assists.
The `Dogs won the team battle in kills 75-67, assists 71-64 and digs 72-61.
