FRESNO, Calif - With a dedicated philosophy to excel academically and athletically in a strong program, head men's basketball coach Steve Cleveland announced the signing of a future Bulldog, John Ryan, to a National Letter of Intent to play for Fresno State starting in the 2010-11 season.
"We are excited about John being part of our program," Cleveland said of the Southern California native. "He is a skilled and intelligent 6-10 post player. John is also an outstanding student."
Ryan (El Segundo, Calif.) is a 6-10, 250 power forward/center out of El Segundo High School. He was recruited for his ability to dominate the low post and assert a physical presence into a talented Bulldog roster. Ryan's excellent academic background and dedication to the classroom is expected to shine in Fresno State's widely respected Kinesiology program.
"I think he has a huge upside and will compete for minutes as a freshman," Cleveland added.
One recruiting service credited Ryan's deceptive athleticism and strong set of skills, including very good hands, feet, and toughness.
Ryan will join an experienced Bulldog Basketball team primed to compete as an elite team in the Western Athletic Conference.
Cleveland expects to complete his 2010 recruiting class during the April late signing period.
