Kucerkova Continues Tear

In the consolation round of the ITA Team Indoor Championship, Fresno State met up with the SEC's Clemson Tigers. The Bulldogs fought hard, but Clemson came away with a 5-2 win.
"We played close against another top 15 team," Fresno State head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "I was pleased with our singles. Next time we need to capitalize more on our opportunities."
In doubles action, Anastasia Petukhova and Renata Kucerkova, the No. 2 doubles team in the nation, continued to dominate the field with an 8-4 victory over Ani Mijacika and Keri Wong.
For the second straight match in the tournament, Kucerkova upset another ranked opponent. This time No. 111 Keri Wong of Clemson fell victim to Kucerkova's tear through the ITA Tennis rankings, with a 6-2, 7-5 victory for the Bulldog junior.
Senior Tinesta Rowe also cruised to a win for the Bulldogs with a 7-6(2), 6-3 victory over Estefania Balda.
In the match of the morning between the schools, Fresno State's unranked Danon Beatty took No. 117 Alexandra Luc to a tie-breaker in the final set. However Luc was successful in picking up the 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(3) win for the Tigers.
Next up for the `Dogs will be No. 10 Florida tomorrow at 7 a.m. PT. After the ITA Team Indoors, the Bulldogs next come back home to face the Saint Mary's Gaels on Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
